Helplessness behind a Smile

Almost a week has passed since this happened and I was confused whether to put it here. Its impulse rather than anything else that my fingers are running on the keyboard right now.
Everyone wants to smile and laugh... to have a good time wherever they are. In the process they often do things which probably they don't realize or probably wouldn't have done otherwise. It's so easy to laugh at others, but it takes a lot to laugh at your own helplessness.
One fine afternoon I was with one of my best buddies, Vishwas Pratap Singh at his place. I wouldn't have mentioned his name but being the protagonist of the post, I decided to give him this honour. Bored and with nothing to do, we decided to relive the pranks we used to do with our mates. Whatever followed, can be figured out from the saying "An idle mind is a Devils workshop". I hit one of the pranks which he tried to play upon me once.... and there we were, living the Deja Vu. We planned it once again...this time with a better story.
I called his friends one by one on the phone and pretended to be his elder brother asking them whether they have any news on Vishwas as he didn't return home even after 2 days of his leaving the house for some purpose. Over to that, I also told that he isn't answering any calls.
It was a mere co-incidence that all the friends who were contacted happened to be girls. They were out of their wits when they heard it. They all began texting and calling him, and he received all of them. He told them that he won't be returning home as he is going to marry a girl his family won't accept, so he slipped out of the house and went out of the station to be with her. It sounded real funny when they tried to convince him and ask about his well being. But we had no idea how far this was gonna go.
There was a girl who was one of his better friends. Vishwas cared about her a lot. But the fun of the prank proved too much to think about that fact how seriously she took things. We didn't take a note that she can go into depression and all that stuff. But luckily nothing of that sort happened. On hearing this news, she was deeply hurt as she also cared for him like a brother. Still the Devil was heavy on our minds to take a notice of it. The prank started to get serious and uglier. Gradually, we came into a thought mode. We couldn't have ended it. The prank almost got into everybody's nerves and especially her.
Initially we had decided to stretch it for about a week and then call them all at a place together, for a treat and have a end the prank telling them all about what exactly happened. We had a plan to make the moment memorable when we let the cat out of the bag. We started arranging for digicams, cake and a party. But it was not to be. Things became a mess and it was becoming uglier with each passing moment. We had no clue how we would end it. The girl was in real gloom. The only thing we could have done was to look at each other's faces and smile a helpless smile. We didn't know what we could have done at that moment. A moment of laughter was worth days of tension. Yes we did laugh...yes we did have our moment initially, but it didn't go as planned. And even today, this prank is proving to be nuisance... more to Vishwas than to myself. He thinks twice before leaving the house and almost all day long he wishes only if he could go back in time and stop this from happening. He smiles, but he knows it deep within himself that he is helpless. He never wanted it to be this way. He wishes only if he can take back the stress that he gave to all of them, only if he can explain why he did it, only if he can tell them the truth without affecting their friendship. He is still worried and still thinking about it....and all he can do is to smile...at his own fate.
It may be sounding pretty easy from a non-inertial frame, but it isn't. For the moment, the cat is still in the bag and nobody has any idea how, when and where to let it out...

God Help!!!
