ONE HALF MEASURE

Everybody must be aware of what one half measure is capable of.....But the problem arises to understand it. Exactly........One Half Measure...This will tell you what it means..

Not many days ago....an NSG commando was in operartion at the Hotel Taj in Mumbai 26/11/08. A black day in the history of Indian Calender. That soldier was fighting to save other's life. He probably thought of their families, their loved ones....just like most of us have. Even he was no exception. He had two small daughters, a wife, old parents; and he was the only one on whom the family depended on their daily bread. Anyways he never lived a very luxurious life..just enough to satisfy their basic needs. coming back again....

The operartion was almost completed. Each individual room was being checked for any person still in the hotel, who could be ensured safety. There was a feeling of pride in him. For the civilians were hailing the commandoes for what they had acheived. They were our real heroes afterall!! Being an INDIAN is a pride for any soldier and when they had just acheived something major......the pride within modifies to something enormous...it can't be explained.

He was the one checking each room, with all sorts of things ruminating in his mind..his children, their happiness on seeing him back again, the bravery certificates, the nation's pride and what not.. There were little rooms to be checked by then. With a sense of relief and a sigh which smelled of acheivements, he opened the door no. 640......and he stepped in...................................................................................................................................

Not much time had passed before this, another important event was about to be held in INDIA........the land of cricket.....The ICC champions trophy...Every team was well prepared and with a new enthusiasm stepped into the tournament; for then there were no shadows of guildstone on anyone then...

The tournament of teams was still in process when a paticular Indian player was a stand-out already in the series. As every Indian wants, our country was doing well....they were one of the strong contenders of the game. And one man was in supreme touch. He was in a form that turned many games on its head.. By far, the most dominant batsman in the series. When somebody is in that kind of touch, he is bound to get calls from the middle east. There was an offer made, an offer irresistable to anyone. Such huge amount of money is rarely seen even by a cricketer in his lifetime; but at the cost of his wicket? at the cost of his country??? The answer was yet to be found...The final frontier was ready for the last game....the main event...The FINAL.

It were the final moments of the match in a crunch situation. "The Batsman" was still in the crease and so was the crowd on its feet. One small mistake could have proved hazardous. What was going in his mind? But since, he was still in his crease.........

Okay, he looked a bit confused in the middle, a bit worried as if he had a decision to make. Well, he would have made it by now. Nobody knew anything except that he was in fine form. Maybe, the crunch situation of the match was showing on his face. But he had been in such situations before. He had the qualities of a leader in him..He was D-best.

With the crowd going restless with each dot ball, the tension was beginning to show on everybody's face. Amidst all that, he stepped out to one delivery and scopped it in air...............................................................................................................

Names, are the gifts of humans to humans....so there is no need of naming a human by a human to the humans....let their names be beneath the cover. The news of a day consisted of two events on two different pages..

One said, a brave martyr's wife who died while fighting against the terrorists...is begging the government for some financial help for her and her childrens' survival; while the Indian as well as the state government are playing the blame games against each shrugging their duties off..

The other said, the most talented cricketer in the Indian team was awarded by the sate government a cheque of Rs. 50 lakhs on becoming the no. 1 batsmen in the ICC rankings by the performance in the Chamions trophy. Although India lost the title, but the player did well to keep up the Indian flag by helping India reach the finals of the tournament. The state government also promised a prize money of Rs. 10 lakhs to the player. Being the Icc player of the tournament and the ICC's best batsmen in the game for about almost an year, the player had already been awarded US $ 500000. The player is happy with his performance and says that he will continue the good work in days to come..........

Both were Indians, their professionalism brught them closer to country's name. But yet, so different a story. If a child is reading this....what will you like to become when you grow up? This is what One Half Measure is all about.
